Hackney’s primary schools are doing better than ever, government data has revealed. The percentage of children at Key Stage Two (years 3-6) achieving the expected level in English and Maths has increased by 14% over the last five years, to 71%.
Just five years ago, for the academic year 2005/2006, the difference between the achievements of Hackney pupils at this stage in their education versus the national average was 13%. This has since decreased dramatically to 3%, the biggest improvement by any education authority in the country.
Parkwood Primary School is the highest performing in the borough at Key Stage 2, with 95% of students achieving a Level 4+ in English and Maths.
Headteacher of Parkwood Primary School, Pat Cardis, said, I’m delighted that our pupils continue to meet these high standards. This could not have been achieved without dedicated staff at every level and, most importantly, pupils who are keen, eager to learn and supported by their families.”
Deputy Chief Executive of the Learning, Trust Steve Belk, said “The fact that we are the most improved education authority in the country over the past five years is something that everyone working in education in Hackney – teachers, support staff and others – should be immensely proud of.”
