Hollywood legend unveils underwater world

Hollywood actress, Eileen Essell, will unveil the new underwater mural at Southwold Primary School on Monday 21 July as part of Create’s changing:spaces project.

Southwold pupils will come up with designs and poetry for the underwater themed mural in creative workshops run over two weeks by Create. They will also create a series of backdrops for an existing outdoor stage to encourage children who speak English as an additional language (EAL) to learn and enjoy being creative in both their primary and secondary languages.

The children’s designs will be reproduced into a mural by Create and a group of volunteers including students in Year 5 and Healy Hunt who funded the project.

The project is run by Create, a unique charity (registered charity No 1099733) that uses the creative arts to help transform the lives of the most disadvantaged and vulnerable people in our society.

BBC consults with Young Hackney

Northwold Primary School took part in the BBC’s consultation last week. A mix of 20 children from Year 2 to Year 5, offered their views on current programmes aimed at children on TV, radio and the website, as part of the BBC’s children services review.

The consultation commenced after school hours, conducted by three interviewers from the Audience Councils in England.

“We were very excited to be part of an important service for children, said Alison Kriel, Headteacher of Northwold Primary. “The interviews went well and the children really enjoyed it. They were very forthcoming about what they enjoyed and what they wanted more of, giving the interviewers lots of food for thought.”

The pupils with supervising teachers will go on a free CBeebies tour in September for taking part in the review.

This year, the BBC Trust consultation review of children’s services is reviewing theBBC’s services for children under the age of 12. Further information can be viewed here
