During this time we have developed a good working rela= tionship with them and have been working on behalf of schools and the trust= to resolve any initial 'teething problems'. As part of our ongoing commitment to ensure that you get a good and efficie= nt service from Norwich Union , we have put in place regular review meeting= s to monitor the performance of the occupational health contract. Further t= o this we met with Dr John Sterland, Consultant Occupational Physician. The= purpose of the meeting was to discuss how you can support employees who ar= e unwell and how you can get the most of any referrals that you make. Our discussions with Dr Sterland were most helpful and it was evident that = Norwich Union are very keen to work with us to ensure your needs are met. A= s a result we have drafted some notes for guidance when making a referral. Prior to the appointment It is important that you discuss the purpose of the referral with the emplo= yee. If the employee is prepared for the appointment and knows why they are= being referred to occupational health then they are more likely to feel su= pported and therefore able to discuss their health openly during the consul= tation with the Doctor. We suggest that you give the employee a copy of the= completed referral form and this guidance leaflet. The guidance answers ma= ny frequently asked questions and should help to allay any fears employees = have about visiting Occupational Health. It also advises what to take to th= e appointment. Consultation and report The Doctor will ask the employee a number of questions about their medical = history and recent issues in order to analyse their health, determine if th= ey are fit for work and make recommendations. The Doctor may also probe fur= ther any work related issues. This information will be provided to you in t= he report and the content will be discussed with the employee during the co= nsultation. Employees can request a copy of it (they need to do that in wri= ting). If you have specific questions please put them on the referral form = - this will help tailor the reports to your needs. If you receive a report = that you have further questions about you can contact the physician directl= y - they will be happy to talk through any issues with you.
