One of the prime considerations of the £150million BSF schools programme is to facilitate the growth and development of the Extended Schools Programme in secondary and special schools. When the programme is completed all schools will welcome visitors and their own students through new purpose-built entrances.

Facilities in the creative arts, sport, vocational areas and ICT/Learning resources will be extensively modernised and new signage and circulation systems will ensure they are easily found. Parents/community rooms, counselling suites and other facilities for health and other multi-agency collaboration will be added, alongside the development of better catering facilities for use by all.

As far as possible these new facilities will be zoned so that the schools remain safe and secure during and beyond the “normal” school day.
