Virgin Media USO site portal information needed

Before any work can be carried out during this project, information must be added to the Virgin Media tab within the LGfL USO Portal. Please click on the image below to be taken to the LGfL USO portal.

These are the details, for ease of reference:

  • Was the building constructed before 2000? (If yes, a copy of the site asbestos register must be available for the Virgin Media planner to inspect during the site survey)
  • Is there now, or has there ever been, a Virgin Media or ntl:Telewest service into the building?
  • Is a copy of the building's floorplan available? (If yes, you will be prompted to upload a copy)
  • Does the building have a basement?
  • Is there an existing internal cable route (i.e. trunking/containment)?
  • Is any other site work currently taking place, or scheduled to take place soon? (If yes, you will prompted to add details of the work)
  • Are the building and grounds owned by the LA? (If no, a wayleave questionnaire must be supplied)
  • Are there any known construction issues? (If yes, you will prompted to add the issues)

LGfL 2.0 Transition Technical Guide

This will also be sent direct to your school by LGfL, in cohorts, in advance of each school’s planned installation date, as a reminder of the essential actions which must be taken in advance of the first steps in the installation process.

The guide has the following sections:

    • A narrative describing the three main phases of the process:
      • Pre-installation
      • Installation
      • Post-installation
    • Appendices 1 - 5 provide detailed instructions on particular points where this will be helpful for those less familiar with the relevant technologies
    • Appendix 6 – an overview of LGfL1 and LGfL 2.0 services
    • Appendix 7 – a check list for school to use to ensure that the necessary steps and actions are taken.

LGfL strongly recommend that the relevant person(s) in schools read the entire narrative section (p 1 -6) to make themselves familiar with the entire process, well in advance.

The particular attention of schools is drawn to the following points:

    • When a site survey takes place any key staff with concerns about the route cables will take must be present
    • Any requests for a subsequent change of route will incur a charge (min £250)
    • The person carrying out the site survey MUST be accompanied
    • The engineers doing the “civils” (digging etc) are all CRB checked and must be given access to the appropriate areas of the site
    • The engineers doing the cabling are also CRB checked and must be given access to the appropriate areas of the building to complete the installation
    • Before a site survey takes place it is essential that you update the LGfL 2.0 deployment details on the LGfL Support Site
    • When a site survey appointment is arranged please take the earliest possible slot
