The Educators’ Awards pay tribute to individuals, teams, schools and organisations that have made a positive difference to education in Hackney.
The Educators’ Awards pay tribute to individuals, teams, schools and organisations that have made a positive difference to education in Hackney. The awards give educators, parents and carers and students the chance to thank a favourite teacher, show appreciation for a dynamic community organisation or recognise the impact of a great mentor.Since they were first set up in 2004, the awards have helped to raise funds for grants to support high-achieving local students and raised more than £60,000. The awards take place every other year with pupils, parents and carers able to vote.There are 22 categories in 2010 Educators’ Awards including teaching awards for schools, team awards for schools, community awards and business awards.To nominate, please visit www.educatorsawards.co.uk and complete a short form telling us how your favourite educator has gone above and beyond the call of duty. TiP 1, a year-long CPD course is open to all primary, secondary and non-art specialists aims to develop relationships between teachers keen to explore opportunities to work with art as a teaching and learning resource. The course is open to 20 teachers.
TiP 1, a year-long CPD course is open to all primary, secondary and non-art specialists aims to develop relationships between teachers keen to explore opportunities to work with art as a teaching and learning resource. The course is open to 20 teachers.. The programme includes four sessions at Tate Modern. Through a combination of Inset and artist-led workshops with their students, teachers will be encouraged to develop an innovative arts project, including a visit to the gallery for teachers and their students. The Tate's collection will be used as a basis for developing subject knowledge of historic, modern and contemporary art. Hackney Secondary Schools Fair will be held on Tuesday 8 September 2009 at Ocean Music Venue, Theatre 1. The exhibition has been running for a number of years and continues to be one of the most successful schools’ exhibitions in London.

The exhibition has been running for a number of years and continues to be one of the most successful schools’ exhibitions in London.The Fair is an opportunity for potential pupils to find out more about Hackney’s secondary schools and to meet headteachers and teachers.The Ocean has wheelchair access and is in a central location for all living in the borough with good bus links. This year’s Shoreditch Festival runs from Friday 17 - Wednesday 22 July.
This year’s Shoreditch Festival runs from Friday 17 - Wednesday 22 July. Alongside this, the World in Motion Day created by young people for young people is on Sunday 19 July from 1 -7pm. This event is a collaboration between the Barbican Centre, Guildhall School of Music and the Shoreditch Trust, supported by The Learning Trust. Students from Stoke Newington School will be performing. The day is free and features live music, dance and film. Please promote this within your School and encourage young people and families to attend.

In advance of Black History Month, inspirational words based on the theme ‘Free to Grow’ are invited to become a lasting commemoration of the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade.
In advance of Black History Month, inspirational words based on the theme ‘Free to Grow’ are invited to become a lasting commemoration of the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade. The winning words will be used on a plaque to accompany the borough’s Abolition tree which will be officially unveiled on August 22 on Stoke Newington Common. The winner will read their piece at the ceremony.The competition is open to children and young people aged 8 -16 years. Please include the entrant’s full name, age, the school attended and a home telephone number. Submissions of no more than 100 words should be sent by email to cultural.development@hackney.gov.uk, any Hackney library or directly to Hackney Museum by 5pm on Tuesday 14 July 2009. These can also be sent to Nicola Baboneau at The Learning Trust.

Schools are reminded to return a complete Bullying Incident Monitoring form covering the Spring term 2009. The submission date was May 1 2009.
You will need to return the completed form even if no incidents of bullying have been reported during this period. If you have already sent in a form for that period, I have unfortunately not received it and would ask you to send a copy again, preferably by email.Please return the information by July 17 2009.
